J.S. Bach – Magnificat in D Major (with Christmas hymns)

Join Exeter Bach Society for a selection of 18th century Baroque masterpieces. All three works are a triumph of compositional brevity. Whilst the melodic motifs remain rich and expansive the musical forms are tightly controlled in complete contrast to the extended ‘da capo’ arias of Bach’s later passions and Handel’s oratorios.

This performance will also restore the four Christmas hymns from the E flat version of the Magnificat, written for Christmas Day in Leipzig, 1723, in order to add a touch of festivity to the occasion as we enter the 2016 holiday season.
