Join Exeter Bach Society for a feast of music both contemplative and passionate on the eve of Holy Week. 2017 sees the celebration of the 70th anniversary of the haunting Duruflé Requiem (1947) and the society present it here with the beautifully scored reduced orchestration.
Duruflé was also an extremely talented organist and was heavily influenced by the works of J.S.Bach throughout his distinguished career in both composition and performance. Andrew Millington (Director of Music at Exeter Cathedral, 1999 – 2015) will complement this connection with a performance of Bach’s majestic Prelude and Fugue in B Minor.
There will also be performances of the incredibly moving J. S. Bach motet – ‘Komm, Jesu, Komm’, a Baroque setting of the moving text ‘Miserere’ by Czech composer Zelenka and an audience favourite, Fauré’s delightful Cantique de Jean Racine.
The concert will begin with a performance of Vivaldi’s incredible outpouring of passion and fire ‘In Furore Iustissimae Irae’ sung by professional soprano, Aimee Presswood.
